How I came to Monza is an interesting story. On thursday morning, I received a call from
Marc Sourd (owner and driver of the nr.28 car). He mentioned that he saw me
compete in the french championship, and wanted to know if
we could do a race together at Monza.
That night, I finalized the last details and drove to Monza! Luckily, I was able to participate
in Fridays practice session. My first thoughts of the car were very impressive, including
the staff of Callaway and Marc Sourd Racing. Since 2006, I have not raced competatively so
to place 4th fastest was a good start on Friday.
Next came qualifying on Saturday. When we started, the track was in wet conditions (alot of
rain) so we opted to go out using rain tyres. Unfortunately the track was drying quickly,
but I managed to post a time that was around a second clear of second place.
I expected a good race following my pole position, however the safety car that was called
out after the wreck with the Ford GT and Porsche. This eliminated my 30 second lead. My goal was to
get the car in the best position for my team mate, but in the end we managed to finish the
race in second behind the Ford.
It was a great feeling and sensation to be on the podium after coming back from a year
without racing. I think the disqualification was a bit stupid with the wrong set of tyres,
but this one shot race was so exciting and a great experience! I would like to thank
Corvette, Callaway Competition on building such a wonderful car, and to Marc Sourd for
giving me the chance to drive at Monza.
As for where my future is with Corvette I am not sure, but I am hoping to continue racing
in the 2008 season with Corvette.
