British GT: Snetterton Report

United Autosports secured its maiden victory in the Avon Tyres British GT Championship following a dramatic two-hour race on the new Snetterton 300 circuit.
Despite two pit lane penalties, Matt Bell brought the #23 Audi R8 LMS to the finish in top spot after long-time leader Glynn Geddie was forced to bring his CRS Racing Ferrari 458 Italia into the pits with just seconds remaining after being shown a black and orange flag for damage to the front of the car.
Geddie took the flag in second place with Allan Simonsen third in the Rosso Verde Ferrari 430 Scuderia, while GT4 honours went to Marcus Clutton’s KTM, which also had to overcome a pit penalty before taking victory.
GT3 team SpeedWorks Motorsport qualified on the eighth row of the grid, after a wet Saturday Qualifying session. The session was the first wet conditions for the team and their new Callaway Z06R. Unfortunately drivers Piers and Ron Johnson were unable to take part in the race, due to an issue with the cars gearbox.
“It’s hugely disappointing,” said team boss Christian Dick. “We could not fix the car at the circuit so had no alternative but to pull out. We knew from the weather forecast that it might be wet. The car hadn’t run in the rain, so it put us on the back foot in terms of finding a set-up.” The Corvette was roughly ten seconds slower as a result.
The series resumes for round four at Brands Hatch next month.
