FIA GT Appeal Update

Although the FIA GT championship ended nearly a month ago in Zolder, the title could still have some behind the scenes developments. After Vitaphone Maseratis Andrea Bertolini and Michael Bartels were declared the title winners in Zolder, PK Carsport filed appeals against the team. This means that both teams will be forced to meet at the FIA Court of Appeal FIA for sentencing.
The appeal is being lodged by the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium (RACB) on behalf of PK Carsport against decision N°17 taken by the Stewards of the Meeting dated 25 October 2009 concerning the event run at Zolder and counting towards the 2009 FIA GT Championship. The appeal concerns that from Vitaphone in the 2nd pit stop. More than the permitted number of mechanics from the team were in the working area. After having viewed the television footage, the Stewards decided to impose a drive-through penalty, which was converted into a 30 second time penalty, upon car N°1.
However, PK Carsport appealed the Stewards’ decision as it considered that a more substantial penalty should have been imposed upon Vitaphone Racing. The Court of Appeal Sentencing from the FIA was originally scheduled on 25 November. The new date set this week will see the hearing take place on the 3rd of December.

The details below are for the hearing:
10.00 hrs
Thursday, December 3rd, 2009
FIA Salle du Comité,
8 place de la Concorde, 75008 Paris
