Luc Alphand Aventures:
Philippe Poincloux: “We’re very happy with this first race of the Le Mans Series Championship. It’s always great to win the first event as it gives us much hope and determination for the rest of the season; especially since we badly started the day. Just before the start of the “Warm up”, on Sunday morning, we had an engine problem. When we started the C6.R Corvette, we heard a terrible noise…We then chose to change the oil filter on the engine but we were not certain that this was the problem. Luckily, we were not too far off as the C6.R Corvette started up perfectly and went off to show us what was under its hood.
On top of this, the fight for the first place was ferocious amongst the competitors! During the first hour, the safety car was on the track due to an accident between two cars. As of this moment, our race strategy was perfect. I advised Guillaume Moreau to stay near to the Safety Car to be able to go at full speed once the car left the track. This enabled us to take the lead…
After this, Luc, Patrice, and Guillaume managed the race perfectly without taking risks and we were able to hold the leading position until the checkered flag was waived indicating the end of 6 hours of hard racing.
We’re feeling great, competitive, and ready to attack the rest of the season. We have just obtained 10 points and are very proud to be ahead of our principal rivals who drive factory cars.
Our technical team has progressed which is much due to our new engineer. Several small improvements and changes on the C6.R Corvette have just proven worthy. I would like to congratulate the team for their excellent work!”
Larbre Competition:
Christophe Bouchut: “Not having any time to set the car up is a massive handicap, but while we lacked some performance, the balance of the car was not too bad. The Safety Car cost us any chance of victory but we fought hard to secure a very positive result.”
Team Modena:
Sporting Director Rik Bryan: “There was at least 3.5 litres of fuel left in the car. We just don’t know why we couldn’t get it to the engine. That was enough for at least another lap, and I think we will only know for sure what the problem is once we get the car back into the workshop.
“It was very frustrating, if we had no problems then we could have fought for the GT1 win, the Corvette was very quick but we were going well early in the race.”
