In the FFSA GT this past weekend, Corvette asserted itself once again when both SRT and DKR Engineering entries finished ahead of the S7R Saleens.
The weekend started off with the Larbre Saleen taking pole position in the hands of Wilfried Merafina, while the Vettes started 2nd (SRT), 5th (DKR C6R) & 6th (DKR C5R). The race positions remained the same leading up to the first round of pit stops.
During the stops, the leader elected to stay out and built up a lead before handing off to Bouchut a few laps later. After handing the S7R over to the Frenchmen of Bouchut, the DKR C6R managed to overtake the Saleen for fourth place. Marcel Faasler (filling in for Soheil Ayari) in the SRT C6R continued to pressure the lead Saleen of Halliday and at Virage du Pont corner, passed him. Once this occurred, Faasler pulled out a huge gap behind the rest of the field.
DKR also managed some spectacular driving when Dayraut pushed past both Saleens to slot into second place. The two Corvettes held on to the top 2 podium positions and secured their first 1-2 finish of the season.
“Only last week I was competing against SRT and now I’m winning for them, you can’t have better than that”, Marcel Fässler laughed. “I must take off my hat for the way the team handled matters. There aren’t many teams in the world able to combine the atmosphere of family team with that of a professional approach. I’m obviously fully aware of the approach of Mercedes or Opel in the DTM, but the human approach really appeals to me. SRT is a close knit team and in the future we can expect some great things from them, both here in France and in FIA GT also.”
