Callaway aiming for déjà vu at Monza

After winning race one at Monza last year, Callaway Competition is eagerly looking forward to a possible repeat this weekend.

Exactly one year ago, Monza showed the true speed and performance of the Callaway built Z06R GT3 racer. Not only was the Z06R quickest in both races, but it captured the first win for the team of the year and they gained valuable points in the 2007 championship. The second race was however marred with controversy. After crossing the finish line in first position, the number 18 car of Pirri and Gartzen ran out of fuel and was unable to return to Victory Circle. Ferrari entered a protest, which they won and the Nr. 18 was denied its win.

For 2008 however, the team is better prepared. With a strong driver lineup of Peyroles/Ruffier and Sascha Bert and Alois Meir, Callaway is aiming for
top results in both races.

James Ruffier (no.1 Z06R): "We went very well at Monza last year, and finished second (with Riverside) – we could have won, except for a small problem during our pit-stop. I'm sure that we will be able to go better than we have at Silverstone, because we're going to have a test session to set the car up, and try different things. Monza is a good track for our car, but I think other cars will be strong, such as the Ford GT and Porsche."

Sascha Bert (no.2 Z06R): "I am really looking forward to making my debut in the FIA GT3 European Championship; I was working with the Martini Callaway team before the season began, and now I'm happy to get the opportunity to race with them. We went very well at Monza in the pre-season test, where we were quickest on the first day. I think the Corvette is good enough to qualify in the top three or four spots. I like Monza a lot. It's a very quick circuit, and I've had some good
races there in the past."

The cars will hit the track Friday at 10:50 local time for practise and will be followed by qualifying before the first race Saturday at 10:35. Live timing will be up for the entire race weekend, so you can follow all the progress of the Corvettes
in the GT3 and GT1 races.
