Corvette began the 2008 FIA GT series this weekend with strong point finishes in the FIA GT, GT3, and GT4 Championships.
The first test for Corvette was in the GT3 and GT4 races.
Callaway brought their usual pairings of Z06Rs as well as their
new GT4 C6 coupe (to debut in their first race).
Due to the conditions and the tricky time setting up the tires the
Z06Rs managed to qualify 9th, 13th, and 29th. The race itself would be slightly better
for Callaway. Due to the rain on the track, which caught out most teams, Ruffier/Peyroles finished 7th while the other Z06R teams
did not see the checkered flag.
The second race was however slightly better as Callaway qualified 3rd behind
the Ford GT and Aston DBRS9. Once the green flag flew the pack came onto the main straight the No.25 Team Berlanga Ascari KZ1R GT3 spun in the middle of
the pack, with cars scattering left and right.
Two cars, the No.30 AutoGT Racing Morgan Aero 8 and No.8 Hexis Racing Aston Martin DBR9, hit the wall and were out on the spot, while the No.7 Trackspeed Porsche limped round to the pits to retire.
The safety car was sent out while the stricken cars were removed.
On lap 24, Khan in the Ford GT made a last minute pass around the outside of the Corvette (which was leading) at Stowe corner and swept into the lead; when the chequered flag fell Ruffier and Peyroles
ended 2 seconds behind the leader.
